Released in 1997 on Bulletproof Records, I decided to put this album on the other day, my first time hearing it. I’ve heard the first song, Portrait, somewhere before a long time ago but I don’t remember where from. I remember being a fan of this band when I was younger, but never got into any of their albums. It’s a style of melodic emo I was into when I was younger, much like Sunny Day Real Estate, Mogwai and Pedro the Lion. It’s a very poetic and artistic album, with moments of softness changing dramatically to screaming and distorted guitars.
The lyrics are mostly introspective and poetic with some mention of Jesus in the song Grand Spectacle, the chorus singing: “and oh how the mystery unfolds before our eyes / the curtain rises faithfully set beneath the skies / a glory that has seen no match and filled the earth with love / creations grandest spectacle is Jesus.”
Also on the song The Flight of Peter Pan are the lyrics “all day my way what a stupid lie I wish I’d never fly / I never meant to spend years in your silly world / I’ve been ignorant living in a fairy tale / but there’s no fantasy when i call out your name / my only reality Jesus the same.”
